Andrew Bird - Eyeoneye

A couple weeks ago, I asked if anyone had heard the new Andrew Bird album and how it was, and no one really answered. Ha.

Stupid me.

Of course, it’s frickin awesome.

This album, Break It Yourself, is pretty much everything that made you love Bird in the first place; crazy strings, experimentation, whistling, that voice, and a plethora of instruments. Smooth, thoughtful and mellow.

Genius? Always.

“You’ve done the impossible now
Took yourself apart
Made yourself invulnerable
No one can break your heart
So you break it yourself”

River Whyless - Stone

With the first listen of River Whyless, all these thoughts came rushing to my mind(that alone is always a good sign), thoughts and memories,….and then after a while just,… Wow! These guys have a great fucking sound!

Beautiful male and female vocals, and an amazing combination of instrumentation(Bells, Guitar, Harp, banjo, Violin, Cello, Ukulele, Viola).

Give this band a listen, it’s definitely worth your time, and you’ll feel cool “knowing about them before they blow up and become superrrr popular”. ;)

You can buy their album for any price on Bandcamp, follow them on Facebook, or even right here on Tumblr.

24th October 2009 - Loop Bar Wintercoats

Wintercoats - Delicate Position (Feat. Sea Oleena)

Do you ever hear a band for the first time, and just knowwww they are going to be a favorite, or hear them and just fall in love with them instantly?

Wintercoats did that to me.

The opening to this song, reminds me a lot of an Andrew Bird song,…the strings and all…….. There are other similarities too. For instance, Wintercoats is basically, James Wallace. He records all his own instruments of which include; glockenspiel, violin, guitar and piano.  The sometimes haunting combination of instrumentation and vocals keep me hitting the replay button over and over.

Do yourself a favor and check this band out.

A free Ep is available over on their Myspace page.
