Vampire Weekend - Ya Hey

So, the new Vampire Weekend album, Modern Vampires of the City, is now out and boy is it a doozy! Doozy meaning awesome.

Then again, if you’re a fan of the band, would you expect anything less?

The album is once again chock full of summery, poppish songs that instantly transform the listener into a better world of soda pop from a glass bottle, a sunny day on the beach, swim wear, sunshine, a ride in a comfortable, puppies, a nice cocktail, mangoes, a lounge chair and maybe some surfing or a swim.

On the flipside, and even though I’ve only  played the album through a half dozen times or so the lyrics and feel of this album is by far the most mature and quite possibly the best thing I have heard from the band as of yet.

Buy. Listen. Love.

Greg Laswell -  Salvation Dear

This is an older song, new to me, but man oh man do I love it.

“Okay
Go ahead and stay but don’t sleep in too late
I’ve got to wake alone

It’s just that goodnight is easier than goodbye
I’m already sold on ending up alone

And oh
Don’t you dare pray for my salvation dear
Can’t you tell that I’m in love with you here”

So good.

Air Review - Young

The sky is blue, the sun is up and bright, and the snow is melting all crazy and sparkly and this song is the perfect soundtrack.

(Yes, run on sentences are my new specialty)

Daughter - Still

Not to sound cliche, but this song really is heart breakingly beautiful. Quite possibly one of the best, I have heard in the last six or so months.

If you haven’t heard much of Daughter, I really encourage you to dig a little deeper, listen a little more.

Good stuff.

Syron - Here

This is slightly more poppy than stuff I usually post or listen to, but I’m kinda liking it. Labeled by MTV as “One to watch”, whatever the F%*# that means. Haha Check her out HERE, and give here a listen. Lemme know what you think.

Golden Youth - Forever Young (Rod Stewart Cover)

I’ve repeated this about ten times in the last hour. I think It’s better than the original maybe?

Emeli Sande - River

This isn’t really the type of artist, despite how talented she is, I would normally post about, or even listen to, but my sister told me about her and asked if I could find the album for her. So, I was listening and doing a little research, and apparently she’s already been and is a huge deal in the UK, and undoubtedly will very soon blow up the U.S. in typical Adele like fashion.

All that blah blah being said, I really like this song, River. There are a few other songs I kinda liked too, but if you like this track, you should probably check her out. She has a ridiculously amazing voice, and some pretty amazing lyrics. …. Oh, and apparently she could have signed a huge record deal atlike 16 but went to school for medicine for like ten years and has a tattoo of Frida.  Ha. I thought that was kinda cool.

Anyways, enjoy.

Fun. - All Alright

I know this album has been out for a while, and I’ve actually owned it in it’s entirety for a couple weeks now, but wow……if all you’ve heard is the hit song, We Are Young, that is and has been taking the radio and internet by storm, then you really should check out the rest of the album. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to it all the way through just this week alone,………and the lyrics……I’m really a sucker for good lyrics, and this album is jam packed with them.

But I like to think
I can cheat it all
To make up for the times I’ve been cheated on
And it’s nice to know
When I was left for dead
I was found and now I don’t roam these streets
I am not the ghost you want of me

Free Energy - Electric fever

You may or may not remember these guys from last year( I think it was last year) when they kinda made a big splash in the indie pop world, with songs like Bang Pop & Dream City earning them “best new band” recommendations.

Whatever.

They’re back, and return with that same distortion heavy, bouncy pop that comes across like a nice, tall cup of the caffeine of your choice. Just what I need this morning. :p

The bands new album, Love Sign, is due out soon.

Regina Spektor - Don’t Leave Me ( Ne Me Quitte Pas)

Apparently, this is actually a new rendition of an older Regina song. Reworked. Whatever. It’s awesome.

Don’t Leave Me will be on the new album, What We Saw From The Cheap Seats, out May 29th.
