Vampire Weekend - Ya Hey
So, the new Vampire Weekend album, Modern Vampires of the City, is now out and boy is it a doozy! Doozy meaning awesome.
Then again, if you’re a fan of the band, would you expect anything less?
The album is once again chock full of summery, poppish songs that instantly transform the listener into a better world of soda pop from a glass bottle, a sunny day on the beach, swim wear, sunshine, a ride in a comfortable, puppies, a nice cocktail, mangoes, a lounge chair and maybe some surfing or a swim.
On the flipside, and even though I’ve only played the album through a half dozen times or so the lyrics and feel of this album is by far the most mature and quite possibly the best thing I have heard from the band as of yet.

Of Monsters and Men - Skeletons(Yeah Yeah Yeahs Cover)
This cover is as good as the title implies, assuming you know the bands. If you don’t know either of the bands,…..well, you should probably get your head out of the sand and familiarize yourself with both.
Two bands, with two entirely different sounds.
Of monsters and Men a earthy, folksy sounding band take a brilliant song by the edgy, in your face Yeah Yeah Yeahs and put their own twist on it, and the result is amazing.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Let The Day Begin
I’ve heard at least a handful of BRMC songs since they formed and was never really that impressed(maybe I was just listening to the wrong tracks?). However, last week I heard this song on the radio and googled the lyrics, blah blah blah, and well, I love it. Slightly anthem like in the veins of a U2 song(A good U2 song,..and yes, they exist. ;) ) with some solid lyrics.

Fol Chen - I.O.U.
Fol Chen describes their sound as Opera House, which I think is awesome and hilarious, but also doesn’t really make sense, I suppose. Sounding more like floaty, electronic music helmed by the voice of an angel. Seriously, I don’t even think I could look her in the yes while she was singing….ha.
…anyways, the new album,The False Alarms,is out now and if this track is any indicator of the quality of the rest of the album, it is a must have.
We’ll see.

Sigur Ros - Brennisteinn
Sigur Ros have announced a new album, Kveikur, to be released June 18th.
Splendid.
Even more splendid, they released a track for sampling, so Oila! New Sigur Ros! The perfect thing for a greyish snow day.

Smith Westerns - Varsity
New Smith Westerns track from the forthcoming LP Soft Will due out in early June. Varsity sounds as light and sunny as a summer day.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege
So, I’m always a little behind when it comes to hearing about new stuff. I had heard rumours of a new YYY’s album and of course I was excited, but when I saw the link to the single,…well, I got reallly excited.
I immediately sent a text to my sister, and the brief conversation went some thing like this;
Me: “Unholy balls! New Yeah yeah yeahs!’
Her: “No Way!”
Me: ” New track! Sacrilege! Omg! Omg!”
Her: “GAH!”
Haha. Yeah.
It’s good. Of course.
The new album, Mosquito, is due out April 16th.
