Of Monsters and Men - Skeletons(Yeah Yeah Yeahs Cover)
This cover is as good as the title implies, assuming you know the bands. If you don’t know either of the bands,…..well, you should probably get your head out of the sand and familiarize yourself with both.
Two bands, with two entirely different sounds.
Of monsters and Men a earthy, folksy sounding band take a brilliant song by the edgy, in your face Yeah Yeah Yeahs and put their own twist on it, and the result is amazing.
Listen.

I really love this. Thoughts?

Patty Griffin - Ohio
The latest from a living legend.
Patty has a new album, American Kid, due out May 7th.

Josh Ritter - Hopeful
I’ve been hearing whispers that this is possibly the best Josh Ritter album to date. That is saying a LOT.
I have only three of the tracks from the new album(due to the fact that I’m not a huge, fancy pants blog that gets sent oodles of albums from all the record labels) insert sad face here), and all are amazing. Did I expect anything else? Not really.
Ritter’s latest effort, The Beast in it’s Tracks, is now available for your consumption.

Mimicking Birds - Cabin Fever
This isn’t a new song per se, but gosh, is it nice.
The simple, picking, pushing and pulling of strings. Calm, collected lyrics sometimes almost whispered by a, at times husky voice. All of which comes across like a warm fire in a cabin, on a lake, mid winter when it’s oh so very cold and stormy out and you’re snowed in with nowhere to go. Cabin Fever.

Ivan & Alyosha - Easy To Love
I’ve been hearing this on the radio just about every time I turn the radio on lately, and although I hate to see radio ruin such a great song, it is good to see these guys getting some props.
The Folk-Pop, Seattle based group releases their first full length album today.
I don’t know if most people know that the band name is taken from the famous novel The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. A great read, and that concludes your history/literature lesson for the day. ;)

The Last Bison - Switzerland
Described as “Alternative Folk with classical sensibilities”……..and rightly so. The Last Bison can definitely play. Catchy folk pop at its finest.
Folk pop. Haha
Seriously though, give these guys a listen.

Cherokee Red - Lonely Summer
Described on their Bandcamp Page as “Woozy dream pop from the low lying valley of Northeastern Pennsylvania”, Cherokee Red are probably one of my favorite new finds. With a sound reminiscent of Rilo Kiley, the charge of a mere six bucks for their album seems like old fashioned highway robbery.
Listen.
Love.
Buy.

Josh Ritter - Joy to you Baby
Ritter is a busy man these days, with a new Ep available February 21st, a 7” out now, and a new album due in March. That can sometimes mean a flood of subpar material, however I have honestly NEVER heard a bad or even mediocre song from this musical genius.
Enjoy.
