Juniper - Weatherman
Did you know Damien Rice was in a band before his pretty amazing solo career?
I didn’t.
“Juniper were an Irish rock band from County Kildare, most widely known today as a precursor to Damien Rice and Bell X1. The band consisted of Rice (under the pseudonym Dodi Ma), Paul Noonan, Brian Crosby, Dominic Philips and David Geraghty. They released two extended plays, The J-Plane (1994) and Manna (1996).
The band’s only two singles, “Weatherman” and “World Is Dead”, charted in Ireland when released in 1998. Juniper also appeared on a compilation album, Natural Born Elvis (1998). They split over creative differences soon after, with Rice going on to have a successful solo career and the remaining members forming Bell X1.” - Via The Almighty Wikipedia.
With Guitars typical of the times ( Early 90’s) and Rice’s unmistakeable vocals at the helm, Juniper sounds like,……well, the kinda sound like a garage band with a ton of potential that would never make it without a shakeup.
From the ashes of the burning Juniper we get Damien Rice in all his glory and the pretty over all great band Bell X1.
Not bad. Not Bad.

Mimicking Birds - Cabin Fever
This isn’t a new song per se, but gosh, is it nice.
The simple, picking, pushing and pulling of strings. Calm, collected lyrics sometimes almost whispered by a, at times husky voice. All of which comes across like a warm fire in a cabin, on a lake, mid winter when it’s oh so very cold and stormy out and you’re snowed in with nowhere to go. Cabin Fever.

Rilo Kiley - Let me Back In
New Rilo Kiley?! What? What?
Well, Yes annnd No. This is new (*Kinda like what Postal service is doing), as in unreleased from back in the day. New to us, old to the band.
Buuuuuttt,.. it’s still Rilo Kiley and most likely most have never heard it.
The verdict: Like I said, it’s NEW Rilo Kiley.
;)

*In February 2013 the band announced a collection of previously released rarities and unreleased material titled to be released in April 2013 on DeReeder’s own label The Little Record Company, “RKives” - Via Wiki
With vocals slightly reminiscent of Brandon Flowers aka The Killers, and slightly edgier instrumentation. The Jesus Rehab hailing from the great city of Seattle, Washington although relatively unknown are about to reveal themselves to the world like a beautiful miracle.

The Last Bison - Switzerland
Described as “Alternative Folk with classical sensibilities”……..and rightly so. The Last Bison can definitely play. Catchy folk pop at its finest.
Folk pop. Haha
Seriously though, give these guys a listen.

Passion Pit - Take a Walk
This is crazy awesome seeing a new Passion Pit track this morning, because I was seriously just thinking about them, and why we hadn’t heard or seen anything new from them in a bit.
..And of course it’s great. A slightly more serious message behind the lyrics of this song, but it’s same amazing sound that made you like them in the first place.
The new album, Gossamer fittingly hits stores this summer(7/24).

Beach House -Equal Mind
This was taken from the B- side of the 7” split released on Record Store Day, and supposedly will NOT be on the new album, Bloom (due out 5/15). Knowing they are leaving songs as quality as this off the new album, makes me all the more excited to hear it. Also, I really like how they seem to be sticking to a winning formula instead of overly experimenting.

Emeli Sande - River
This isn’t really the type of artist, despite how talented she is, I would normally post about, or even listen to, but my sister told me about her and asked if I could find the album for her. So, I was listening and doing a little research, and apparently she’s already been and is a huge deal in the UK, and undoubtedly will very soon blow up the U.S. in typical Adele like fashion.
All that blah blah being said, I really like this song, River. There are a few other songs I kinda liked too, but if you like this track, you should probably check her out. She has a ridiculously amazing voice, and some pretty amazing lyrics. …. Oh, and apparently she could have signed a huge record deal atlike 16 but went to school for medicine for like ten years and has a tattoo of Frida. Ha. I thought that was kinda cool.
Anyways, enjoy.
